Choosing Healthcare Providers

Choosing healthcare providers when you are injured or faced with health challenges and pain can be a difficult process. You don't know what type of doctor or provider to seek out. Who can help you with the condition that you have.

Each different type of doctor or provider is unique in themselves. Even if they practice the same type of treatment, you will get different results.

Chiropractors work well with massage sessions. Chiropractic helps align the spine and joints relieving the pressure on the nerves that may be adding to the muscle pain or spasms. Finding a good chiropractor these days can be difficult. Many will want you to come in once a day for a few weeks or even a few months. Whether this type of treatment is necessary or right for you is up for you to decide. There are many chiropractors out there who are now doing new types of chiropractic and not just doing the regular bone crunching adjustments. Many types are subtle energy work and many are also doing more along the lines of orthopedic method like contracting and relaxing various muscles to help them relax.

Physical therapist are also being trained in these methods. Physical therapists usually will first assess the strength, range of motion and flexibility of your body. Most usually focus on the strengthening part giving you exercises to rebalance your body. In my opinion, a good physical therapist will do more than just give you exercises or do ultrasound. A good physical therapist will usually be one who works for themselves and works on you for 30-40 minutes of hands on therapy. Sometimes exercise is enough, but I think it goes faster with orthopedic methods.

Acupuncturists can also help relieve pain. They work with the concept of meridians of the body. They can address many issues such as pain, arthritis, headaches and other conditions. Some have a fear of needles but the needles are really not anything like the needles used for injections that have created such fear. They are usually about the width of a piece of hair.

Naturopaths look at the whole body also and will usually do blood tests along with food allergy tests to find what is needed to create health.

All of these different types of health care providers can make up a team of health to help support you on the road to healing. The body is very complex and needs various support.

Choosing a healthcare provider, keep in mind what your needs are. Do you need to have someone conveniently located as well as can work with your condition? Check in with yourself during each session and see how you feel when they are doing the treatment or see how you feel after doing things that they recommend. It is all about doing what is right for YOUR body and right for YOU.
