Causes of Pain

There are many different things that are said to be causes of pain. The obvious case of trauma - a fall, an accident, a sports injury. Direct force to the body can cause pain.

Other things like nagging back and neck pain, headaches and migraines, foot pain or conditions such as fibromyalgia are very complex and have many different causes of pain.

What we eat - what goes into our bodies and how our bodies are able to digest and turn the food into energy will influence how you feel and can increase or decrease the amount of energy and pain you may have on any given day. Hidden food allergies or intolerances to food can result in tight muscles, headaches and back aches. A Naturopath can help you diagnose food allergies either with a blood test or an allergy elimination diet.

Personally I know I feel much better when I don't eat sugar or gluten. I have also seen many people's bodies change when they stop eating sugar or some other food that they may unknowingly be intolerant of.

What you think and feel also influences the tension in your muscles. Things like stress and being in the wrong job, profession or relationship also has a way of showing up in your body. I personally have worked with many people in chronic pain that has cleared up when they just made some changes in their life like:

Chronic hip pain - cleared up after the person stopped drinking diet soda and when they quit their job to pursue a life of voluntary simplicity.

Chronic back pain relieved when they quit their job to go back to school and pursue another career.

Chronic upper back tension/pain clears up after getting out of a stressful job and finding a new job closer to home doing something new.

Chronic headaches relieved when they quit their job to pursue a their own business venture in gardening and landscaping.

The list goes on but you can get the idea. What massage does in cases like this is helps you get in touch with your inner feelings and helps you to see more clearly what you need and where you are off track.
